Prachtig zijn ze hé? En nu komt het mooie… er zijn borduurpakketten gemaakt van een heleboel van haar schilderijen!! Van het schilderij hierboven dat ‘winter dreaming’ heet, ziet het borduurpakket er bv zo uit:

Beautiful are they not? And now the best part... there are beautiful embroidery kits made ​​from a lot of her paintings! Below you can see an example of an embroidery kit which is made from the painting above which is called ‘Winter dreaming’.

Zie je hoe mooi gedetailleerd het ook is? De kleuren zien er wel behoorlijk anders uit, maar dat kan ook aan de foto liggen, dat weet ik eigenlijk niet.

See how well detailed it is? The colors do look pretty different, but that can also be the picture that I do not know.

Sinds kerst 2009 ben ik in het bezit van zo’n mooi pakket. Al ruim een jaar dus en ik ben er nog niet aan begonnen en dat heeft een reden. Het pakket heb ik gekregen van mijn moeder en dit was dus het allerlaatste kerstgeschenk dat ik van haar heb mogen krijgen. Zoals jullie weten heeft ze kerst 2010 niet meer mogen meemaken, maar daar hadden we toen nog geen idee van.

Since Christmas 2009 I own such a beautiful embroidery kit. For over one year and I am not yet started, but that has a reason. The package I received from my mother and this was the last Christmas gift she would ever give me. As you know, she has not live to see Christmas 2010, but at the time we had no idea.

Zelf geloof ik niet in toeval, maar denk ik dat alles gebeurd met een reden (wat die reden dan ook zijn mag, want soms zie ik dat niet). Mijn moeder en ik hadden het wel eens over de tijd dat zij niet meer bij me zou zijn, maar dat schoof ik altijd gelijk van me af. Ze was een ontzettend kwieke, levenslustige vrouw die volgens mij makkelijk 100 jaar zou kunnen worden. Toch was het dit keer wel bijzonder… ze vroeg me namelijk of ik een kerstkadootje voor mezelf wist en ik dacht gelijk aan zo’n mooi borduurpakket. Ik vertelde het haar en ik zei erbij dat ik dat ook een hele mooie herinnering zou vinden, mocht ze er ooit niet meer zijn. Waarom ik dat zei weet ik ook niet, maar zo voelde het ineens… vreemd hé? Mijn moeder vond het een prachtig kado en heeft mij het pakket gelijk laten bestellen. Ik heb toen gekozen voor dit pakket:

My mother and I sometimes talked about the time where she won’t be around anymore, but I didn’t really wanted to talk about that. She was a very spry and spirited woman who I think could easily be 100 years. But this time was special... because she asked me if I knew a Christmas gift for myself and I immediately thought of such a beautiful embroidery kit. I told her that I thought this would be a very beautiful memory, when she would ever be gone. Why I said that I do not know, but it suddenly felt that way ... weird huh? My mother loved the gift and said I should order one. I then opted for this package:

Prachtig vind ik het… al die winterse details van bijvoorbeeld het hulst onder de capuchon uit… het lieve dorpje in de sneeuw… de ijspegels aan haar arm en het kleine elfje dat op haar hand de rijp op de bladeren zit te schilderen. Het heet ‘Spirit of Winter’

Toch ben ik er nog niet aan begonnen, omdat ik het tot nu toe gevoelsmatig nog te moeilijk vind. Het pakket zit zelfs nog dicht! Maar binnenkort ga ik het misschien toch tevoorschijn halen en de benodigde borduurzijde kopen.

Ik denk niet dat het zal lukken om het voor aankomende kerst af te hebben, want op het hele doek is volgens mij geen enkel open plekje. Echt alles is gevuld met kruissteekjes en zo’n enorm projekt heb ik nog niet eerder onder handen gehad. Maar een uitdaging is het zeker!!

Still I haven’t begun yet, because until now I still find it emotionally difficult. The package is still even closed! But soon, I will go out and buy the necessary embroidery silk. I do not think I will succeed to finish it for the upcoming Christmas, because it is really a lot of work. Really everything is filled with cross-stitches and such a huge project I have never been in progress. But it is certainly a challenge!

Mystery Quilt blok 1!!!

Inmiddels heb ik het stofpakketje voor blok 2 alweer binnen, dus het werd hoog tijd om blok 1 af te maken. Na hard werken is dit het resultaat:

Het is niet zo’n mooie foto geworden, want in het echt zijn de kleuren veel mooier. Volgende keer zal ik proberen een betere foto te plaatsen.

The picture is not very nice, because in real the colors are much more beautiful. Next time I will try to make a better picture.

De rand met de Flying Geese moet ik er nog aanmaken, maar verder zit alles erop en eraan.

Het appliceren viel me eigenlijk nog best mee alleen de sterren… wát een crime zeg! Nadat ik bij de eerste ster geploeterd had om de punten ook mooi puntig te krijgen, ben ik eerst eens gaan kijken hoeveel van die sterren er op de hele quilt voorkomen. Nou, dat zijn er veel kan ik je vertellen!! Maar tegelijk is dit ook wel een goede oefening natuurlijk hahaha.

The applique wasn’t so hard until I had to make a star... what a crime! After I had struggled with the first star to get sharp points, I first went to take a look to see how many of those stars at the quilt occur. Well, there are many I can tell you! But at the same time this is also a good exercise of course hahaha.

Afgelopen zondag zijn we met z’n vijfjes naar de Efteling geweest en we hebben een superleuke dag gehad.

Last Sunday the five of us went to ‘the Efteling’ and we have had a great day.

Voor degene die mijn andere blog niet leest even een kleine update. Mijn oudste zoon Rodney is afgestudeerd als grafisch vormgever en op dit moment zoekende naar een baan in de grafische sector. Omdat hij niet thuis wil blijven zitten, heeft hij inmiddels een baantje aangenomen als postbezorger bij TNT post. Tegelijk zorgt dat ook voor wat inkomsten en die heb je natuurlijk ook wel nodig wanneer je in het weekend eens lekker uit gaat hihi.

For those who do not read my other blog a little update. My oldest son, Rodney graduated as a graphic designer and is currently searching for a job in the graphics industry. Because he does not want to sit at home, he has now accepted a job as a postman at TNT Post. Simultaneously allows for some income and that is necessary if you want to go out sometimes in a weekend of course hihi.

TNT had een leuke aktie voor z’n medewerkers. Rodney kon 5 entree bewijzen kopen voor € 12.50 per stuk en per kaartje kreeg je dan Efteling geld ter waarde van € 8.00 plus een kop koffie met wat lekkers bij aankomst. Nou dat was een buitenkansje natuurlijk! Wanneer je bedenkt dat een kaartje normaal gesproken € 32.00 kost en dan ben je alleen nog maar binnen. Je moest dan wel gaan op 13 maart, maar dat vonden we niet erg.

TNT had a great offer for its employees. Rodney was allowed to buy 5 tickets to go to the Efteling for € 12.50 each and together with each ticket you got Efteling money worth € 8.00 plus a cup of coffee and a snack on arrival. Well that was a great opportunity of course! When you consider that a ticket would normally cost € 32.00 and you are only inside. You had to go on March 13, but we did not mind.

We hebben het erg naar onze zin gehad, want het park is leuk voor kinderen van elke leeftijd. Voor de jongsten is er natuurlijk het sprookjesbos (vinden we zelf ook nog leuk)…

We had a great time, because the park is fun for kids of all ages. For the youngest there is the enchanted forest (we still like them) ...

… en voor de wat grotere kinderen en de volwassenen zijn daar natuurlijk de achtbanen,

Zelf ben ik gek op Droomvlucht met de elfjes en de bloemen en ook de Fata Morgana waarin je je in het land van Aladdin waant.

Personally, I love Dreamflight with fairies and flowers and the Fata Morgana where you get the feeling you are in the land of Aladdin.

Er zijn sinds de laatste keer dat ik in de Efteling was weer de nodige dingen bijgekomen. Niet alleen attracties, maar ook eetgelegenheden bijvoorbeeld. Zo hebben we ‘s middags lekker een broodje düner kebab gegeten (zo heet dat geloof ik) en aan het eind van de dag zijn we nog met z’n allen poffertjes gaan eten.

Since the last time I was in the Efteling the necessary things have been added. Not only attractions, but also restaurants for example. Thus in the afternoon we enjoyed a düner kebab sandwich (I believe that’s what it’s called) and at the end of the day we went to this restaurant to eat pancakes.

Ondanks de drukte hebben we toch een heerlijke dag gehad!

Nu ga ik snel boodschappen doen, daarna wat rommelen in huis en dan kom ik vanmiddag bij jullie langs om te kijken wat voor moois jullie weer allemaal gemaakt hebben. Tot straks!!

alweer voorbij

Alweer een weekend om… wat gaat de tijd toch hard! En het was nog flink koud ook vond ik. We hebben dan ook niet veel gedaan behalve natuurlijk de boodschappen en nog even naar het tuincentrum waar ik wat potten met viooltjes gehaald heb. Toch weer wat kleur in de tuin tenminste.

Another weekend is behind us ... how time flies! And it was pretty cold, don’t you think so? Therefore we have not done much except of course the shopping and we went to the garden center where I bought some pots of pansies. Yet again some color in the garden at least.

Wat we wel gedaan hebben, is gisteravond naar de pizzeria geweest. Meestal gaan we op de laatste dag van een vakantie lekker uit eten met z’n vijven en mijn jongste zoon Rick is daar wel blij om. “Dan vind ik het tenminste niet zo heel erg dat het alweer de laatste vakantiedag is mam”, zei hij. Nou, dat scheelt dan alweer hé?

What we did do, is going to the pizzeria last night. We usually go to a restaurant on the last day of a holiday with the five of us and my youngest son Rick is happy about that. "Then at least I don’t mind so much that this is already the last day of our vacation," he said. Well, at least that is a good thing huh?

Van Dorothy heb ik inmiddels het middenstuk tot en met de bruine rand doorgequilt en nu ben ik begonnen met de vierkantje-rand. In het begin zat ik wel een beetje onhandig te doen, maar gaandeweg begin ik de slag een beetje te pakken te krijgen. Het is wel heel erg leuk werk, vind ik en het stuk dat ik al gedaan heb, voelt nu ook als een ‘echte’ quilt! :-)

From the Dorothy quilt, I have quilted through (no idea how to say this in english) the centerpiece until the brown border and now I started with the square edge. At first it was a bit awkward to do, but gradually I started to get the hang of it. It is very fun to do, and the part that I have already done, now feels like a 'real' quilt! :-)

Ook heb ik de eerste steekjes gezet van de Mystery Quilt en zitten er 2 van de 10 driehoeken aan elkaar… flying geese noem je geloof ik zo’n patroon hé? Voordat ik kon beginnen, heb ik eerst het hele pakketje uitgepakt en dit zat er allemaal in:

Met een wijntje bij de hand heb ik alles uitgezocht en het is echt mooi!! Maar toen ik eenmaal de driehoeken begon te knippen, kreeg ik pas in de gaten hoe groot dit blok eigenlijk is!!

With a glass of wine at hand, I have everything sorted out and it's really beautiful! But once I started to cut the triangles, I just realize how big this block really is!!

Jeannet *klik* gaat deze quilt ook maken en zij heeft bedacht om een lijstje op haar blog te plaatsen van iedereen die ermee bezig is. Dat vind ik een leuk idee dus dat ga ik ook maar doen. Kunnen we bij elkaar kijken naar de vorderingen.

Eindelijk!!!

Ja hoor, het is zover… de top van Dorothy zit in elkaar!!! Kijk maar eens:

Nou, ik ben er supertrots op… dat mag je gerust weten hoor! De maat is 150x147 cm zo’n beetje, dus niet al te groot maar toch groot genoeg om quilt te heten inplaats van quiltje vind ik hahaha.

Well, I am very proud of it… I can assure you that! The size is about 150x147 cm, so it isn’t very large but large enough to carry the name quilt instead of little quilt I think hahaha.

Sarah heeft denk ik stiekum meegekeken wanneer ik op de weblog van haar aan het kijken was en daar heeft ze gezien hoe mooi Bregje eruit ziet iedere keer weer wanneer ze de quilts aan het showen is. Ze is er nu dan ook gauw voor gaan zitten toen ik de foto wilde nemen en doet net alsof ze niks in de gaten heeft. Nou, vooruit dan maar… blijf maar zitten dan. En ik beloof dat je straks ook mag showen wanneer de quilt echt helemaal af is!!!

Sarah I think has secretly watched with me when I was watching her weblog and there she saw how beautiful Bregje looks every time she showed a quilt. Therefor she hurried to sit down when I wanted to take pictures and pretends she has nothing in mind. Well, allright ... then just keep sitting. And I promise you that as soon the quilt is completely finished, you may show it!!

Op het blog van haar heb ik laatst goed opgelet en gisteravond ben ik druk geweest met het dubbelen van de lagen (zo heet het toch?) Met band heb ik de boel vastgeplakt hier op de grond en vervolgens alles doorgeregen. Mensenlief… ik had geen knieën en geen rug meer over toen ik klaar was!!

Terwijl de één nog niet eens af is, heb ik het volgende projekt alweer klaarliggen. Van de week heb ik namelijk het boek en het eerste stoffenpakketje voor de Mystery Quilt binnen gekregen. Wát een leuke dingen staan er in dat boek zeg!

Weer héél iets anders natuurlijk dan Dorothy. Dit keer ga ik ook applicaties proberen en ik moet eerlijk toegeven dat ik dat best een beetje eng vind hoor. Een poosje geleden al heb ik een rolletje freezer papier besteld, want ik zag op veel blogs dat dat veel gebruikt wordt. Van mijn spaanse vriendin Marisa heb ik al wat tips gekregen hoe ik dit moet gaan gebruiken, dus ik ga mijn best doen! Gebruiken jullie dit freezer papier eigenlijk allemaal of gebruiken jullie weer andere technieken?

Something completely different ofcourse than Dorothy. This time I will also try applications and I must admit that I find it a bit scary though. A while ago I ordered a roll of freezer paper, because I saw on many blogs that is widely used. From my spanish friend Marisa I've got some tips how it should be used, so I will do my best! Do you use this freezer paper also or do you use other techniques?

Mijn jongste zoon Rick is vannacht bij een vriendje blijven slapen en net komen ze samen hier binnen stappen. Alleen om even de zwemspullen te halen, want ze gaan met nog wat vrienden naar het zwembad. Brrrrr… mij niet gezien hoor! Véél te koud!!! Het is natuurlijk een binnenbad, maar het idee alleen al om daar in badpak rond te lopen, nee danku. Daarvoor ben ik een veel te grote koukleum denk ik hihihi. Hebben jullie Piet Paulusma gehoord gisteravond? Vandaag sneeuw in het noorden, oosten en midden van het land zei hij. O nee toch!?!

My youngest son Rick had a sleep over last night at a friend and they just came home together. Just to collect the swimwear because they go with some friends to the pool. Brrrrr… not me! Way too cold! It is of course an indoor pool, but the idea to walk around in bathing suits, no thank you. I just don’t like the cold, hihihi. Have you heard Piet Paulusma last night? (he is our weatherman on tv) Today snow in the north, east and center of the country, he said. Oh no!?!

Nou ja, evengoed allemaal een fijne (koude) zondag!

Patchwork en Quiltdagen

Al een hele poos keek ik ernaar uit… de Patchwork en Quiltdagen in Vijfhuizen! Gisteren was het dan zover en met een paar blokken van Dorothy in de tas en m’n camera in de aanslag zijn Ton en ik naar Vijfhuizen gereden.

Already a long time I looked forward to... the Patchwork and Quilt Days in Vijfhuizen! Yesterday was the big day and with a few blocks from Dorothy in the bag and my camera ready, Ton and I drove to Vijfhuizen.

Nou had ik geen idee wat ik ervan moest verwachten, want dit was de eerste keer dat ik naar zoiets ging, maar ik had er hartstikke zin in! Natuurlijk wist ik al dat ik in ieder geval de prachtige quilts van haar eens in het echt kon gaan bewonderen en dat was op zich al een ritje waard. Ook had ik al gehoord dat zij er ook zou zijn en het is natuurlijk altijd leuk om tussen haar gezellige spulletjes te neuzen! Maar nu hou ik even mijn mond en laat jullie meegenieten van de mooie dingen die ik gezien heb!

Well, I had no idea what I could expect, because this was the first time I went for something like this, but I was very excited! Of course I knew that at least I would have the chance to admire her quilts in real life and that in itself was worth a ride. Also I had heared she would be there too and it’s always nice to browse through her cosy stuff. But now I just keep my mouth shut and let you enjoy the beautiful things I've seen!

Ineens liep ik tegen een heel bekende quilt aan die jullie waarschijnlijk ook wel kennen… de huizenquilt die Supergoof maakte voor haar dochter. Nou, in het echt was hij nog mooier dan op haar blog kan ik je vertellen!

Jullie begrijpen zeker wel dat ik genoten heb!! En dan ben ik ook nog eens heel goed geslaagd voor de achterkantstof voor m’n Dorothy, maar daarover in een volgende post meer. De vulling heb ik gelijk ook maar meegenomen, Hobbs 80-20 op jullie aanraden hihi. Dus nu heb ik helemáál haast om de top af te maken, dat snap je zeker wel!

Het is alweer een poosje geleden dat ik iets gepost heb zie ik. Hoe sommige andere blogsters het voor elkaar krijgen iedere keer weer iets nieuws te laten zien… ik weet het niet hoor. Ik ben nog maar steeds druk met m’n Dorothy en die kennen jullie inmiddels al hahaha.

It's been a while since my last post I see. Some other bloggers manage to show something new every time... I do not know how they do it. I'm still busy with my Dorothy and you already know that one hahaha.

Wel heb ik inmiddels bericht gekregen dat we gaan starten met de Mystery Quilt BOM en ik heb er zin in!!!! Vinden jullie hem ook zo mooi? Het is in ieder geval heel iets anders dan Dorothy hé? Veel meer applicatie werk dus ik ben benieuwd hoe ik het eraf ga brengen.

But I have now received notice that we start with the Mystery Quilt BOM and I'm excited!! Don’t you think it’s beautiful? It is certainly very different from Dorothy huh? Many more application work so I am wondering how I'm going to take off.

thee met koekjes

Iedereen heel erg bedankt voor de tips over de vulling die ik het beste kan nemen straks. Daar kan ik wel wat mee hoor. Dan heb ik ook nog een vraagje over de stof voor de achterkant, maar daar kom ik later wel een keertje op terug.

Eerst even iets anders… thee met koekjes! Nu denken jullie natuurlijk: “hmmmm… dat wordt smullen!” Maar helaas, nu moet ik jullie toch teleurstellen. Deze koekjes zijn niet om op te eten, maar om naar te kijken.

Thank you all for the tips on filling that can best be taken soon. I can use these tips very well. Then I also have a little question about the fabric for the back, but I will get back to that sometime later.

First something else ... tea and biscuits! Now of course you think: "hmmmm ... that is yummy!" But unfortunately, now I have to disappoint you guys. These cookies are not to eat but to watch.

Deze plaatjes zijn allemaal onderdeel van deze vrolijke voorstelling van een zomers servies. Volgens mij zal dat servies prachtig staan op de tuintafel… en dan nog die lekkere kersen in de schaaltjes, hmmmmm ik krijg er al helemaal zin in.

These images are all part of this lively performance from a summer tea set. I think this set will look wonderful on the garden table ... and then that delicious cherries in the bowl, hmmmmm I already would like to try some.

Kijk, dit is hem helemaal. Hoe vinden jullie hem worden? Met dit borduurtje ben ik volgens mij al in de zomer van 2009 begonnen, maar toen mijn moeder zo ziek werd, had ik er helemaal geen zin meer in. Nu zat ik er vanmorgen eens naar te kijken en ik denk dat ik binnenkort toch de draad maar weer oppak (letterlijk haha). Alleen nog even de kersen op de taart en ernaast een zilveren taartschep. Nou ja, ‘even’ is misschien wat té optimistisch, maar het overgrote deel is toch al gedaan.

Look, this is the whole thing. How do you like him? With this embroidery, I have started in the summer of 2009, but when my mother got so very sick, I didn’t feel like cross stitching anymore. This morning I sat there looking at it and I think I should continue with it. Only just the cherries on the pie and next to it a silver cake server. Well, "only just" is perhaps too optimistic, but the majority is already done.
