Wit op maandag en tutorial quilt-as-you-go

In navolging van Margreet bij mij ook wit op maandag! Ton is vandaag weer begonnen met werken, maar in zijn vakantie heeft hij nog wat klusjes in en om het huis gedaan. Zoals het wit schilderen van onze grenen buffetkast. In de tijd dat we die kast kochten was grenen nog helemaal in en hadden we hier verscheidene meubelen van. Inmiddels is onze smaak behoorlijk veranderd dus deze kast stond in een apart kamertje uit het zicht. Maar nu niet meer hoor! Hij mag nu weer heerlijk mooi staan te wezen in de huiskamer! Moet je maar eens kijken wat een verschil!!

Following Margreet  also a White on Monday post here! Ton started working again today, but in his vacation he had some chores around the house done. One of the things he did, was painting our pine cabinet.In the time we bought that cabinet was pine was still very trendy, and we had several pine furniture. In the meantime our tastes changed a lot so this cabinet was in a separate room out of sight. But not anymore!! He can now enjoy being in the living room again! What a difference don’t you think so?

 

Wat is hij opgeknapt hé? Het zilveren roomstelletje dat mijn vader en moeder gekregen hebben toen ze zich verloofden, heb ik eerst eens even glimmend gepoetst voor ik het weer een plekje gaf in het open vak.

Er is nog wel het één en ander dat wit geschilderd gaat worden en ook staat een nieuwe bank nog op ons verlanglijstje, maar deze kast kan in ieder geval van het lijstje af.

There are still some things that need to be painted white and also a new couch is still on our wish list, but this cabinet is at least off of the list.

Op mijn vorige bericht heb ik van verschillende mensen te horen gekregen dat het hun ook wel handig leek… dat quilt-as-you-go, maar dat ze niet wisten hoe het nu precies moet. Nou ben ik natuurlijk allesbehalve een quiltexpert, maar ik heb van de laatste 2 blokken die ik samengevoegd heb een foto genomen van elke handeling om toch een soort van tutorial te kunnen maken zodat jullie kunnen zien hoe ik het gedaan heb.

On my previous post, I have been told by several people that they also would like to use the quilt-as-you-go method sometime, but they did not know exactly how it should be done. Well of course I'm far from a quilt expert, but when I have assembled the last 2 blocks a took a photo from everything I did so I could make some sort of tutorial. Now you can see how I did it.

Je neemt één van de twee blokken die je aan elkaar wilt maken en op de achterkant zet je een lijntje precies op de maat van het blok:

You take one of the two blocks you want to assemble and on the backside you draw a line exactly the size of the block when finished:

Vervolgens leg je achterkantstof, de tussenvulling en de top op elkaar om door te rijgen net zoals je gewend bent. Je zorgt er daarbij voor dat je een rijgdraadje maakt door het lijntje dat je hiervoor op de stof getekend hebt zodat je de juiste maat van het blok ook aan de voorkant kunt zien:

Then lay your backing fabric, the batting and the top on each other by threading as usual. You will ensure that while you make a thread you follow the line you have drawn on the fabric before so you can see the right size of the block at the front:

Nu ga je het hele blok doorquilten, maar je zorgt ervoor dat je niet helemaal tot aan de randen quilt. Je laat zo ongeveer 1 cm ongequilt:

Now you quilt the whole block, but you make sure you don’t quilt right to the edge. You leave about 1 cm unquilted at the edges.

Ditzelfde doe je met het andere blok. Wanneer je klaar bent, haal je bij de kanten die je aan elkaar gaat naaien de rijgdraad uit de stof:

The same is done with the other block. When you are done, remove the tacking cotton from the sides that you are going to sew together:

Nu leg je de blokken met de goede kanten op elkaar en naai je de beide tops aan elkaar precies op de getekende lijntjes:

Now you put the blocks right sides together and sew together both tops exactly on the drawn lines:

Nadat je dit gedaan hebt, knip je het teveel aan stof van de naadtoeslag weg:

After you have done this, cut off the excess fabric from the seam allowance:

Je legt het geheel voor je op een platte ondergrond… de goede kant naar beneden en vouwt het naadtoeslag naar 1 kant en maakt dit plat (op de foto heb ik het naadje opengestreken, maar beter is het om dat niet te doen:

You put all of it on a flat surface right side down and fold the seamallowence to one side and make this flat:

  Nu knip je de tussenvulling zodanig af dat beide delen mooi tegen elkaar aansluiten en naai je de delen aan elkaar vast met een flanelsteek:

Now you cut the batting so that both parts fit together nicely and you sew the parts together with a flannel stitch:

Als laatste leg je de stof van de achterkanten op elkaar en knipt het teveel aan stof eventueel weg. 1 Deel onder, 1 deel boven, de bovenkant een stukje omvouwen en met een heel klein steekje vastzetten op de onderkant… en voilà!!

Finally you put the fabric of the back sides together and cut away any excess. Lay the fabric on top of each other, fold a little piece of fabric and sew it by hand with a tiny stitch ...and voila!

Alles zit nu aan elkaar en het enige dat je nu nog hoeft te doen, is nog een paar quiltsteekjes maken langs de naad waar je de twee blokken aan elkaar hebt gezet. Dit stukje had je immers opengelaten om daar de naadtoeslag in te kunnen wegstoppen:

Everything is now together and now all you have to do is make a few quilting stitches along the seam where the two blocks are put together. This piece you had indeed left open because you needed some space to hide the seam allowance:

Hopelijk heb ik het een beetje duidelijk uitgelegd. Misschien is er nog een manier waarop het nog handiger gaat, maar dit is in ieder geval de manier waarop ik het doe. ;-)

Hopefully you understand my explanation because my enlish is far from perfect. Perhaps there is another way which is even more convenient, but this is the way I do it. ;-)

Weer thuis, winterpret en een verrassing

We zijn weer thuis!! Na een week Picardië, Frankrijk, zijn we lekker weer thuis. Op vakantie gaan is best lekker, maar ik ben toch altijd maar het liefste thuis hoor. We hebben wat weer betreft best geluk gehad, want hoewel we een aantal bewolkte dagen hadden, heeft het niet geregend en dat kon je van de rest van Frankrijk niet zeggen.

Het was een erg leuk park zoals je hieronder kunt zien op de foto linksboven. Lekker fleurige huisjes… mooi schoon… dichtbij het strand… wat wil een mens nog meer?

Het was wel een beetje klein, want ik had bij het boeken niet gezien dat er maar 1 slaapkamer was dus Ton en ik moesten op de slaapbank in de woonkamer. Gelukkig was het een hele comfortabele slaapbank dus dat was goed te doen.

We are back home! After one week Picardy, France, we enjoy to be back home. Holidays are pretty good, but I prefer to be home.. We were lucky because although we had some cloudy days, it has not rained .
It was a very nice park as you can see in the picture below left. Nice clean bright houses ... near the beach ... what more could one want?
It was a bit small because I had not seen in the book that there was only one bedroom soTon and I had to sleep on the sofa in the living room. Luckily it was a very comfortable sofa bed so that was doable.

Ton bedacht dat het ook wel erg leuk zou zijn om een dagje naar Disneyland Parijs te gaan. Hij had gelezen dat het 2 uur rijden zou zijn dus dat is nog te doen. ‘s Morgens om 8 uur in de auto… 2 uur rijden en dan om 10 uur wanneer het park open zou gaan, zouden we er kunnen zijn. Nouuuuuu…. dat viel een beetje tegen. We waren een beetje verkeerd gereden en kwamen midden in Parijs terecht! Uiteindelijk hebben we er 3 ½ uur over gedaan!!

We zijn gebleven tot het park dichtging (elf uur) en aan het eind konden we genieten van een prachtig vuurwerk met het sprookjeskasteel op de voorgrond… echt schitterend! Natuurlijk ook een heleboel foto’s gemaakt:

Ton also thought it would be a fun day out at Disneyland Paris. He had read that it would be two hours away so that's doable. At 8 in the morning in the car ... drive 2 hours and then at10 o’clock when the park would open, we would be there. Welllll .... that went a bit different. The address we had, wasn’t the right one and we came right in the middle of Paris! Finally it took us 3 ½ hours to get to Disneyland!
We stayed until the park was closed down (at eleven in the evening) and at the end we enjoyed a beautiful fireworks with the fairytale castle in the foreground ... really great! Course, a lot of pictures:

Behalve luieren heb ik natuurlijk ook nog wat steekjes gemaakt! Na de uitleg op het blog van Dorry ben ik begonnen met het doorquilten van blok 4 en blok 5 van de Mystery Quilt om ze in Frankrijk op de ‘quilt-as-you-go’ manier aan elkaar te zetten. Hier zag ik enorm tegenop omdat ik bang was dat de maten niet zouden kloppen, maar ik moet zeggen… het valt me helemaal niet tegen. Het ziet er eigenlijk heel erg leuk uit!! Het is ook erg leuk om alvast een idee te krijgen hoe de quilt er straks uit komt te zien wanneer het helemaal klaar is. Per blok neem ik ook een andere stofje voor de achterkant zodat ook de achterkant straks uit allemaal blokken bestaat.

Bij thuiskomst vond ik nog een leuke verrassing op de mat! Marion is druk bezig haar kasten op te ruimen en onderstaand patroontje heeft ze mij opgestuurd. Leuk hé? Heel erg bedankt Marion en uiteraard plaats ik een foto van het eindresultaat hoor.

Voor het eerst dit jaar ging mijn oudste zoon niet met ons mee op vakantie. Ik weet dat ik toch al niet mag klagen, want hij is al 22 jaar tenslotte. Maar toch voelde het best vreemd… we waren niet compleet. En dat we ook nog eens elk in een ander land zaten, beviel me ook maar niks eerlijk gezegd. Natuurlijk gunde ik het hem wel enorm, want hij heeft de vakantie van z’n leven gehad… met 4 vrienden een rondreis gemaakt van 18 dagen door Engeland en Schotland (mijn droomvakantie!). Hieronder een kleine greep uit de ruim 1000 (!) foto’s die ze gemaakt hebben:

Hoeveel grote knullen passen er in een engelse telefooncel?? Nou zeker 5 dus! Rodney is degene aan de linkerkant. Op de foto rechtsboven (Rodney uiterst rechts) zie je dat ze veel lol gehad moeten hebben… de hele dag in originele schotse outfits gelopen. Én zoals je onderaan kunt zien: helemaal zoals het hoort, want de boxershorts hebben zo over hun schouders hangen hahaha.

How many big guys can fit into an English phone booth? At least 5 so it seems! Rodney is the one on the left. The photo right (Rodney far right) shows that they must have a lot of fun ... all day they walked around in Scottish outfits. And as you can see below: they wore them as they should, because the shorts are hanging over their shoulders hahaha.

Het was een lange post dit keer, maar nu ben ik zo’n beetje weer bijgepraat geloof ik. Nu ga ik weer snel een paar blogs bekijken, want ik ben in bijna 2 weken tijd hopeloos achterop geraakt heb ik al gezien!

blok 5 is af!!

Ja hoor, ik loop nog steeds op schema… elke maand een Mystery blokje maken en dit keer dus blok 5. Het was wel een leuk blok om te maken vond ik.

In het echt ziet het geborduurde gedeelte er mooier uit dan nu op de foto. Waarschijnlijk zorgt de borduurdraad die achterlangs loopt voor een licht hobbeltje in de stof en met het maken van een foto krijg ik daardoor gelijk een schaduw die je in het echt eigenlijk niet ziet.

Actually the embroidered area look nicer in real life than in the picture. Probably the embroidery thread that runs from behind makes a light bump in the fabric and that is making a shadow in the picture that you do not see in real life.

Ik kom soms wel voor verrassingen te staan met deze quilt en dat zijn dan geen aangename verrassingen helaas. Natuurlijk komt dat omdat ik pas begin met quilten en daardoor af en toe fouten maak. Maar van elke fout leer ik weer een beetje bij zodat ik over een quiltje of 10 de boel misschien wel aardig onder controle heb hahaha.

In het geval van deze MQ bijvoorbeeld ben ik achter het volgende gekomen: Wanneer ik de patroondeeltjes uitknip, moet ik dat binnen de lijntjes doen en niet buiten de lijntjes. Want wat gebeurd er wanneer ik het buiten de lijntjes uitknip? Wanneer ik dan het patroondeeltje op de stof leg en er een lijntje omheen teken, wordt het deeltje dus een ietsiepietsie groter dan het eigenlijk zou moeten. In het geval van Sarah de hond bv, is dat natuurlijk geen probleem. Maar wanneer je nou de blokken en driehoeken van de buitenrand neemt… ja, dan worden al die ietsiepietsies ineens bij elkaar zomaar ½ cm of zelfs wel bijna 1 cm en klopt de uiteindelijke maat van het blok niet meer.

Tja, nu weet ik dat, maar nu is het te laat… Maar goed, ik zal wel een oplossing bedenken. Zolang ik maar zorg dat de blokken straks goed aan elkaar passen, is er geen man overboord natuurlijk.

I'll sometimes get an unpleasant surprise while making this quilt. Of course it is because I am just a starting quilter and therefore I sometimes make mistakes. But every mistake I learn a bit so in about 10 quilts or so I might have the whole thing under control. hahaha

In the case of this MQ for example, I came across the following: When I cut out the pieces of the pattern, I must do that within the lines and not outside the lines. Because what happens when I cut outside the lines? When I get the pieces on the fabric and put a line around it, the fabric is going to be slightly bigger than it should be. In the case of Sarah the dog for instance, it is of course no problem. But when you're doing the same with the blocks and triangles of the borders ... yes, then all of a sudden all those tiny bits together make just ½ cm or even 1 cm and the final size of the block will be wrong.

Well, now I know that, but it's too late ... Anyway, I'll think of a solution. As long as I make sure the blocks fit together well, there is not a man overboard, of course.

Dan nog de vraag: ‘maak ik eerst alle blokken om het in z’n geheel door te quilten?’ of ‘ga ik voor de quilt-as-you-go variant?’ Na lang dubben heb ik besloten dat ik voor het laatste kies en het blok voor blok ga doorquilten. Dan neem ik voor elk blok ook een andere achterkant stof zodat de achterkant straks een soort lappendeken wordt. Dat past wel goed bij zo’n country-quilt vind ik. Alleen heb ik geen flauw benul hoe ik die blokken dan later aan elkaar moet maken, want bij deze quilt zitten er geen sashings tussen de blokken. Als alles goed is, laat José van ‘quilt-it & Dotty’ binnenkort zien hoe dat in z’n werk gaat.

We wachten maar rustig af dus…

Then there is the question: "do I sew all the blocks together and then quilt?" Or "will I choose the quilt-as-you-go version?" After a lot of thinking, I decided to go for the last option and go quilting block by block. For each block I will take a different backing fabric so that the back will look like a patchwork blanket. This fits well with a country-quilt I think. Only I have no idea how to sew the quilted blocks together, because in this quilt are no sashings between the blocks. If all goes well, Jose of 'quilt-it & Dotty' will soon teach us on Dorry’s blog how it's done.

So we just have to wait for that…

Alleen maar even kijken…

Regelmatig wanneer ik in het winkelcentrum ben, loop ik even binnen bij de kantoorboekhandel. Alleen maar even kijken omdat ik nou eenmaal gek op boeken ben. De vloer bij het gedeelte met hobbybladen begint al aardige slijtplekken te vertonen volgens mij, want natuurlijk moet ik wel in de gaten houden wat er zoal nieuw is in hobbyland. Het Magnolia-magazine voor het maken van kaarten is bijvoorbeeld een mooi blad. En zo vind ik ‘het borduurblad’ ook heel verleidelijk. Maar de laatste tijd ben ik sterk en leg ik ze met een spijtig gezicht weer terug. Je kunt nou eenmaal niet álles kopen hé? Wat wel altijd mee naar huis gaat, is de nieuwe quiltmania. Thuisgekomen pak ik dan eerst de boodschappen uit, zet ik thee en vervolgens kruip ik lekker in m’n stoel om daar eens even heerlijk van te gaan genieten.

The floor in the hobby magazines section starts to show worm places at that spot, because of course I have to keep track of what is new in hobby-land. The Magnolia magazine for creating cards is a beautiful magazine .And so I find "the embroidery magazine" very tempting. But lately I am strong and with a sad face I place them back again. You can’t just buy anything you like right? What always goes home with me, is the new quilt mania. Back home I unpack the groceries first, I make myself a pot of tea and then I crawl into my favorite chair and enjoy the beautiful quilts.

Een paar weken geleden stond ik ook weer voor het tijdschriften vak en toen viel mijn oog op een nieuw borduurboek. 196 Pagina’s maar liefst en móói!!!!

A few weeks ago I was standing there again and my eye caught this new embroidery magazine. 196 Pages and soooo beautiful!!! 

Voor iemand die van engelen en elfjes houdt, is dit wel een héél verleidelijk boek! Het ene patroon nog mooier dan het andere! Ook staan er een paar hele mooie kerstpatronen in en dat geeft me altijd gelijk dat gezellige, knusse kerstgevoel. Ik zal jullie er nu eerst een paar van laten zien. Wat dacht je van deze?

For someone who loves angels and fairies, this is such a tempting book! One pattern even more beautiful then the other! Also there are some very nice christmas patterns in this book and that always gives me such a nice, cosy christmasfeeling. Now I will show you some of the patterns first. How about this one?

Maar nee… ik had mezelf beloofd om op borduurgebied niks meer te kopen dus heb ik het boek weer teruggelegd. Op dit moment ben ik druk met quilten en aangezien ik nog heel wat lapjes nodig heb om te kunnen starten met de Dear Jane, kan ik mijn geld beter besteden dan aan dit boek toch?

Maar ja, jullie raden het al… de hele avond moest ik eraan denken. ‘het zijn toch wel prachtige patronen’ en ‘er lagen er maar 2 en straks zijn ze weg’ . De volgende dag toch nog even wezen kijken en oooooh… er lag er nog maar eentje!!! Ja nou toen kon ik niet anders… snel van de plank geplukt en lekker mee naar huis. En genieten doe ik hoor… steeds weer even doorbladeren en genieten. Maar weet je nou wat zo jammer is? Dat ze bij zulk soort boeken niet gelijk een paar extra handen en een zakje extra tijd verkopen!! *zucht*

But no ... I had promised myself to stop buying anything in the embroidery area so I put the book back. At this moment I am busy with quilting and since I need a lot of fabric to get started with the Dear Jane, I can spend my money better than buying this book right?

But yes, you guessed it ... all I could think about that evening was the book. "They are surely beautiful patterns" and "there were only two, and soon they're gone." The next day I went back to have another book and... oooooh there was only one left! Yeah well ... there was only one thing I could do so I quickly took it off the shelf, bought it and took it home. And now I enjoy browsing over and over again. But you know what? It’s such a shame they don’t sell an extra pair of hands and a bag of extra time with it! * sigh *

Aanrader!!

Wat is dit een leuke quilt om te maken zeg! Echt een aanrader!! Er zit van alles wat in: appliceren, borduren, patchen. En je ziet zo’n blok steeds leuker en gezelliger worden onder je handen. Er zijn ook zoveel leuke spulletjes te verkrijgen om het nóg leuker te maken dan het al is zoals natuurlijk knopen in allerlei vormen of de kleine belletjes die ikzelf gebruikt heb om aan de halsbanden van de rendieren te hangen. Hier een paar foto’s:

This is such a fun quilt to make! Highly recommended! There are a lot of different techniques in it: application,embroidery, patching. And the block is getter more beautiful and more cosy with every stitch you make.There are so many fun things to obtain these days to make it even more enjoyable than it already is like all sorts of buttons or the small bells which I used to hang on the collars of the reindeer. Here a few pictures:

Voor de ervaren quilters onder ons is dit natuurlijk gesneden koek allemaal, maar ik kom op deze manier steeds weer iets nieuws tegen en allemaal even leuk!!

For experienced quilters among us, this is obviously all a piece of cake and all very well known, but i come accross new things every time and all very nice!

En netjes gestreken dit keer, want zo’n gekreukeld blok zoals in mijn vorige post kan natuurlijk echt niet hahaha.

Inmiddels is het weekend alweer bijna om en de tijd is weer omgevlogen! Vanavond nog lekker Fringe kijken en ondertussen verder borduren aan de rode kruisjes-rand van blok 2. Het weer is gelukkig een stuk opgeknapt en er liggen nog een paar mooie zonnige dagen in het verschiet dus een fijne week allemaal!

Meanwhile,the weekend is nearly over and time has flown again! This evening we are going to watch Fringe on television, and meanwhile I continue to embroider the red cross-border of block 2. The weather was fortunately much refurbished and there are still a few nice sunny days to com so everyone a great week!

Mystery block 4

Blok 4 van de MQ is af!!! Dat betekent dat ik nu dus 1/3 van de quilt klaar heb! Eerlijk gezegd ben ik niet helemaal tevreden over het blok, want 1 van de vogeltjes blokken zit niet helemaal recht. Uithalen kan natuurlijk wel, maar daar heb ik op dit moment niet zo’n zin in. Misschien later eens een keertje en anders maar niet… het is tenslotte een country-quilt en daar hoeft niet alles precies recht te zitten hihihi. (goed excuus hé)

Block 4 of the MQ is down! That means I now have 1 / 3 of the quilt finished! Frankly I'm not completely satisfied with the block because a block of the birdies is not quite right, it’s a bit awry. Of course I can start over, but I currently do not feel like it. Maybe some time later and maybe not, but ... it is after all a country quilt, and it does not have to be exactly right hihihi. (good excuse huh)

Zien jullie wel? Het zit scheef. En misschien had ik het beter ook eerst eventjes kunnen strijken voor de foto *ahum*.

Inmiddels ligt het pakketje voor blok 5 al te wachten en ik ben benieuwd hoe dat zal gaan. Veronique Requena (de bedenkster en maakster van de allereerste Mystery Quilt) heeft in dat blok de bruine labrador Jules verwerkt. Helaas is Jules inmiddels al overleden, maar als herinnering blijft hij voor altijd op haar MQ.

The package for block 5 is already waiting and I'm curious how that will go.Veronique Requena (the creator and maker of the first Mystery Quilt) sewed in that block the brown Labrador Jules. Jules unfortunately already deceased, but he stays forever as a reminder in the MQ.

De bruine labrador die ikzelf op mijn blok 5 ga zetten, zal natuurlijk Sarah gaan heten! En daar zal ze best trots op zijn. Net zoals Jules destijds bij Veronique aan haar voeten lag tijdens het quilten, ligt Sarah meestal aan mijn voeten wanneer ik lekker met mijn lapjes in de weer ben.

The brown Labrador which I’m going to sew myself on my block, will be called Sarah, of course! And she will be proud to be in it I think. Jules was always at Véronique’s feet while quilting,Sarah is usually on my feet when I am busy with my fabric and needle.

Nog een paar weekjes dan is ze jarig… 8 jaar alweer!!! Het is dat je het kunt zien aan de grijze haren, maar anders zou je het niet zeggen hoor. Van de week liep ze weer te springen en te spelen buiten en een man die voorbijkwam zei: “nou dat is zeker nog een jonkie!” Hahaha, jong vanbinnen in ieder geval wel!

A few more weeks then it’s her birthday ... she will be 8 years old already! It is that you can see the gray hairs, but otherwise you would not say though. Last week she was jumping and playing outside and a man who came along said: "Well that's certainly still a youngster!" Hahaha, young inside indeed!

Eigenlijk wilde ik eerst blok 4 van de Mystery Quilt afhebben voordat ik met het eerste blok van Scandinavian Christmas zou beginnen, maar nadat ik al die leuke stofjes in huis had, kon ik niet meer wachten! Ze schreeuwden gewoon naar me: “pak me… knip me…” en tja, die smeekbede kon ik niet weerstaan.

Actually, I wanted to complete block 4 of Mystery Quilt before starting with the first block of Scandinavian Christmas, but with all the fun fabrics in the house, I could not wait! They just yelled at me: "take me... cut me..." and yeah, that petition I could not resist.

Trouwens… op zondagmiddag 5 juni bedacht ik me ineens dat ik toch eigenlijk ook wel graag naar die tentoonstelling in kasteel Cannenburgh in Vaassen had gewild. Maar ja, het was al 2 uur en het zou om 5 uur al sluiten. “Kom op, instappen”, riep Ton. Zo gezegd, zo gedaan en een uur later liepen we lekker rond tussen de gezellige tentjes. En wat denk je?? Zag ik daar ineens bij de stand van Jookies de Scandinavian Christmas quilt aan de wand hangen!! Nou had ik deze quilt nog nooit in het echt gezien, dus nu was ik helemáál blij dat we toch nog naar Vaassen gereden waren. De achtergrondstof die zij gebruikt had, vond ik eigenlijk mooier dan de stof die ik ervoor aangeschaft had, dus heb ik dit alsnog gekocht. Het is een mooi beige/grijs linnen.

By the way... on Sunday June 5th it suddenly occurred to me that I actually wanted to go to the quilt exposition at Castle Cannenburgh in Vaassen. But it was 2pm already and it should close at 5pm. "Come on, get in the car," Ton said. No sooner said than done and one hour later we were walking around among the nice cozy tents. And guess what? I saw suddenly in the stand of Jookies Scandinavian Christmas quilt hanging on the wall!Well I hadn’t seen this quilt in real life, so now I was quite happy that we drove to Vaassen. The background fabric she had used, I actually thought was nicer than the material I had purchased before, so I bought it. It is a beautiful beige / gray linen.

Toch was het nog best een gepuzzel om de rand er op een goede manier opgeborduurd te krijgen. De sneeuwvlokken op de lichte stof van de blokjes kon ik gewoon overtrekken op de stof met een stift met uitwasbare inkt, maar op het linnen lukte dat niet. Ik kon de kruisjes er niet doorheen zien en ik moest wat anders bedenken. Omdat het linnen uit dikkere en dunnere draadjes bestaat, heb ik de kruisjes nu 3 draadjes breed en 2 draadjes hoog gemaakt om ze toch gelijkmatig te laten lijken. De maat van de rand moest ik ook aanpassen en daarom kloppen de hoekjes nu eigenlijk niet. Maar toch… ik ben best tevreden. Nog 1 kantje en het eerste blok is klaar om geappliceerd te worden.

Yet it was still quite a puzzle to embroider the edge in the right way. The snowflakes I could just trace on the light fabric with a pen with washable ink, but on the linen I could not. Because the linen got thicker and thinner wires, I now made the crosses three threads wide and 2 wires high so that they are still have the good shape. The size of the border I had to change and therefore the corners are not the way they are supposed to be. But still ... I'm pretty happy.Only one side to go and the first block is ready to be appliquéd.

De donkerrode en de bruine stof en de achtergrondstof van de geborduurde sneeuwvlok is van de serie ‘Winterberry Lane’ van Red Rooster en ik vind het prachtige stof! Zo mooi van kleur!!

Omdat het natuurlijk wel een kerstquilt wordt, vind ik de wat fellere rode stof er toch ook wel in thuishoren.

The dark red and dark brown fabric and the backing fabric of the embroidered snowflake are all from the series "Winter Berry Lane by Red Rooster and I think it's wonderful! Such beautiful colors!
Nevertheless I find a bit of bright red fabric also belong in it, because of course it is a Christmas quilt.

Nu ga ik weer gauw verder… kan misschien nog net het laatste randje borduren voor het eten! Ik ga lekker!!!!

Now I’m going to continue… maybe I can get the last side of the border done before dinner! I have so much fun with it!!
